Sign Fitting Guidelines

Consistency of sign position is important. Signs should be at the same height throughout the building except for signs which include a control element eg. lifts or door entry systems.

Ideal Sign Height

Confirmation signs should be fitted to the wall adjacent to the door latch. Signs fitted to doors are useless if the door is left open.
Toilet confirmation signs can be fitted directly to the doors.
Directional signs should be fitted to the wall preferably in a position that is visible from connected corridors.

Signs are vital for service providers to communicate with customers. Not only can they advertise the latest products & services, they can also provide practical help to people with vision impairments by having embossed pictograms, text & Braille to give a tactile element to the signs. It is essential that the signs are assessable to touch and positioned at a consist ant height around the building.

Ideal Sign Locations
